Dear Mom in Heaven,
This semester I am teaching levels 2 and 4 at the university. My level 4 students are learning about the future with ‘be going to’ and ‘will.’ I have never realized how difficult English is to learn and teach. I want these grammar points to be easy for my students to understand; therefore, I am going to use ‘be going to’ and ‘will’ to write this letter.
Mom, since I won’t be able to share my short and long-term life plans with you, I’m going to tell you them in this letter. I’m going to stay in Mexico for a while and continue to teach. This month I will take the tenure exam so I can continue to work at the university permanently.
I am going to write and publish another book. I’m going to improve my Spanish. I’m not going to get any more tattoos. I have 6 now.
I probably won’t get married again. I won’t have children, but I have no regrets. I have about 145 wonderful students.
It makes me sad to think that you won’t be here to celebrate my 49th birthday with me. I won’t spend another Christmas, Easter or any other holiday with you ever again. It saddens me that you won’t meet your beautiful grandson and granddaughter.
I promise I will try to make you proud of me. I will always love you Mom. I will miss you forever. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
LOVE YOUR DAUGHTER KELLI
